What This Program is About
This presentation by a forensic psychiatrist will address the extent of and cost of emotional/psychiatric claims in the workplace, as well as the contexts and ways in which they may present. Many such claims present via physical presentations where emotional factors have a significant contribution. Specific diagnoses including somatoform disorders, anxiety, PTSD and depression will be addressed. Methods of assessment as well as limitations to assessment will be covered. The distinction between actual impairment vs. claimed limitations will be discussed. Other special problems including challenges in forensic assessment and ways in which the claims manager may improve assessments will be addressed. Factors that contribute to claims incidence as well as reduce claims occurrence and costs will be discussed. A question and answer period will complete the presentation.

Dr. Brian Grant is the president, founder, and Medical Director of Medical Consultants Network in Seattle, Washington. Dr. Grant received an MD degree from Michigan State University in 1978. He completed an internship and residency with the University of Washington Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Science, where he is currently a Clinical Associate Professor. Dr. Grant is Board certified in Psychiatry, a member of numerous professional organizations and is a founding member/past president of the Academy for Organizational and Occupational Psychiatry. Dr. Grant has published professional articles and spoken on a variety of Psychiatric and Disability related topics.
