COMPLEX CLAIMS MANAGEMENT - February 6-7, 2012
This training series is an essential resource for anyone working in Self-Insurance for Workers’ Compensation in Washington State. Both courses are two days in length (no split registrations) and cover the key topics of claims management. Each of the courses serves to help attendees increase their on-the-job effectiveness and provides a take away reference manual.
Introduction to Claims Management replaced Claims 1 and 2 and is for those individuals newer to claims (generally those with less than three years claims experience). In this course, we will provide a brief history of workers’ compensation, and provide instruction on basic claims handling in the topic areas listed below. Attendees will build a claim file from handouts provided in each of the various topics covered, which will allow them to learn how claims develop and how various forms and letters are properly used in the management of a claim. Attendees will also receive a reference manual containing key documents they can refer to in the future.
Complex Claims Management replaced Claims 3 and 4 and is for those with more claims handling experience (generally those with at least three years claims experience). In this course, we will tackle the more complicated areas of claims management listed below. Based on feedback from last year’s attendees, we have dropped a few topics which were perceived as too basic. We have also listened to past attendee feedback regarding the structure of the course and have made this year’s class much more interactive. The format will include training on each topic followed by a question and answer portion which will allow attendees to pose their own particular scenarios for instructor and attendee suggestions. The instructors will also pose some hypothetical situations to the class to encourage problem solving and teamwork. In addition to our team of instructors, we will have three guest presenters. Our coverage of surveillance will include the opportunity to view actual surveillance video and hear from private investigator Don Grundl. Scott Corwin, one of L&I’s Pension and Fraud experts, will join us for our discussion of those topics and workers’ compensation and employment law attorney, Betsy Reeve, of Reeve Shima, will discuss the other laws that impact workers’ compensation. Each of the guest presenters will follow the course structure change to encourage attendee participation. Calculations will not be addressed in this course. Attendees will receive a reference manual containing key documents they can refer to in the future.
As an added feature, attendees of both courses will take both a pre-class and post-class quiz, so that we can measure the effectiveness of the instruction provided.
Please note that time loss, LEP, and PPD calculations
are not components of these training courses.
IMPORTANT NOTE
These courses are now two-day courses.
Split registrations are not provided for.
